A Message from Bob, Co-Founder & CEO of Follow Your Heart

In 1970, we (Michael, Paul, and Spencer, and myself) started Follow Your Heart as four young guys working in the original market and cafe in Canoga Park, CA. In 1988, Paul and I shared a common vision of a company, Earth Island, that would have the capability to provide healthful, nutritious, and delicious vegetarian food to a much larger community. We dared to dream that one day our company would inspire others to do similarly in their own fields and that a time would come when businesses everywhere saw themselves as a force for making the world better: contributing to it, not just taking from it. 

To preserve and maintain our mission to produce the best plant-based food products and to make them available to as many people as possible, Earth Island looked for a partner that is both capable and well-positioned to help us accelerate and expand this effort. I am pleased to report that we have found one such company with whom we feel both a shared vision and shared values and one which we believe will, perhaps more than any other organization in the world, help us rapidly advance and expand our mission.

We are excited to announce that we have agreed to join the Danone family of plant-based brands. Like Follow Your Heart, Danone has a very similar history, with just a 51-year head start and today they are a leading producer of plant-based foods the world over. For it to be the right partner for Earth Island, it was necessary for our choice to embody the very best in social and environmental responsibility. Their motto “One Planet. One Health.” reflects their belief that the health of people and our planet are interconnected and interdependent. Danone North America is proud to be the largest Public Benefit Corporation in America and the largest Certified B Corp in the World. Like us, Danone believes that their company has an ethical responsibility to its people, its community, and to the Earth and they are committed to being good stewards of Follow Your Heart’s mission and values.
