INGREDIENTS
- 1 block (14-ounces) extra firm tofu
Marinade:
- 2 ½ tbsp low sodium soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tbsp Follow Your Heart Original Vegenaise
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or agave
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- ½-2 tsp sriracha hot sauce, or as desired to taste
- ¾ tsp garlic powder
- ¾ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- ¼ tsp powdered ginger
- pinch finely ground black pepper
Vegan Sriracha Mayo Sauce:
- ½ cup Follow Your Heart Original Vegenaise
- 1 ½ tsp sriracha hot sauce, or as desired to taste
- juice of half lime
- pinch finely ground black pepper
Optional Garnishes:
- Lime wedges
- Chopped cilantro
INSTRUCTIONS
- Remove the tofu from the package and drain. Press the tofu for at least 1 hour.
- In the meantime, prepare the marinade. In a large bowl, add the soy sauce, Follow Your Heart Original Vegenaise®, toasted sesame oil, maple syrup or agave, rice vinegar and sriracha hot sauce. Whisk everything together until smooth. Add the remaining marinade ingredients and mix once more. Set aside.
- Once the tofu has pressed, cut it into large cubes (about 12 pieces) and gently mix those into the marinade. Cover and marinate for 30 minutes to 1 hour (the longer the better), gently tossing often to ensure the tofu is well seasoned.
- In the meantime, prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the Follow Your Heart Original Vegenaise® sriracha hot sauce, lime juice and black pepper. Adjust seasonings to taste. Set aside.
- Preheat your gas grill to medium high heat and generously oil the grates.
- Once the tofu has marinated, gently transfer the pieces onto skewers. Our skewers fit 3 each, but the amount will vary depending on the skewer size you are using.
- Add the tofu to the hot grill and grill until grill marks appear. Flip and brush with excess marinade. Continue until you have browned all sides, being sure to brush with marinade after each flip.
- Transfer to a heat safe dish and allow the skewers to cool.
- Generously drizzle the tofu skewers with the sauce or use as a dipping sauce when eating. If desired, garnish with cilantro and lime wedges. Enjoy!
Note: No grill? No problem! These tofu cubes can be cooked on a pan or grill pan (skewered or not). Just add the chunks to an oiled skillet, brushing it with the marinade in the same way as directed to do on the grill. If you are using wooden skewers, soak in warm water for 10-30 minutes before grilling. If you would like to prepare this recipe ahead of time, marinate the tofu overnight.
