Grilled Cheese with Portobello Steak and Bacon

  • 2 teaspoons vegan butter
  • 2 Portobello mushrooms, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 teaspoon steak seasoning


  • 2 teaspoons neutral tasting oil
  • ¼ teaspoon lemon pepper
  • 1 package vegan bacon



  1. In a sauté pan over medium heat add vegan butter. Add mushrooms and steak seasoning and cook until mushrooms release liquid and become golden, about 8 minutes.  Remove from heat.
  2. In separate pan over medium heat, add oil, vegan bacon and lemon pepper. Cook until warmed through, and slightly crisp, about 3 minutes per side.  Remove from heat.
  3. Spread Vegenaise on all 8 slices of bread. Turn over to expose bare side. Top 4 slices with Provolone and American cheeses. Top with a few strips vegan bacon, and mushrooms.  Enclose all sandwiches, so Vegenaise slathered side is facing out.
  4. Heat a flat pan or griddle over medium heat. Add all sandwiches.  Grill for about 3-5 minutes per side, or until bread is golden and cheese is melted. Remove from heat and slice down center. Serve warm.
